Lakes in the Highland of Iceland are always interesting.  Most of them are surrounded by stunning mountains, hills, and craters. Álftavatn lake is no exception. The lake is part of the popular hiking trail Laugavegur and, like all of the highland places, only open in summer. Álftavatn is a remote lake and a bit difficult to visit but an adventure and requires an excellent reliable 4X4 vehicle.
